COURSE CODE- MUD301 Pedagogy and Evaluation:

The objective of the course is to engage with an Indian City with adequate complexity in terms of challenges of development and sustenance, with the intention of understanding the complex structure and phenomenon that operate therein. Recognizing inadequacy of large plans in terms of articulation of the public realm, inadequate attention to cultural particularity and lacunae of authorities to manage the city. Subsequently to of wider engagement with people and governments and to address the issues identified. Transformative changes and additions, solutions of identified urban problems in physical terms including degeneration.

Studio Exercise:

·Comprehensive detailed studies of a selected small town or part of a metropolitan city.

·Recording Environment, Regional, Historical and Cultural context as per the case.

A. Urban Design Analysis B. Preparing Existing Structure Plan Set.

C. Identifying Issues, Problems and Potentials through analysis.

D. .Understanding of City municipal management and existing planning provisions, Financial aspects.

E. Identifying scope and needs of Development, Regeneration, Restoration, Conservation.

F. Exploring the concept for intervention.

Vision Proposal and detailed Design Intervention A. .Proposed Structure Plan with methods tailored to the specific case B. .Laying out of overall Policy Guidelines C. Making Specific Plans D. Identifying Urban Design Projects/ proposals E. Working out future Management Plans and consequent statutory provisions F. Brown field Projects and Guidelines and controls and laws.

G. Concept and strategy of implementation H. Aspect of Community involvement as stakeholders.

1. Administrative responsibilities at Municipal levels J.Interrelationship with Planning Authorities.

Learning Outcome:

Comprehensive understanding of the role and scope of Urban design and Urban designer in City building and maintenance.
