The intent of this course is to make students aware of techniques used in different stages of planning process.

Module 1 : Statistics quantitative methods. Mean, Median, Mode, Delphi, AHP Entropy, Relative Importance Index, Sampling techniques, Likerd Scale. General concepts - statistical interference, population and samples variables, Sampling, simple statistical models, population projections, assumptions, methods, techniques, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, measures of shape of distribution, correlation and regression.

Module 2 Basic Terminology, classification of cities, city region, spheres of influence, urban rural fringe, data Base for Physical surveys (including land use / building use / density / building age, etc.) and Socio-economic surveys; Survey techniques, etc.

Land use classification/ coding, techniques of conducting surveys for land use, building use, density, structural condition of buildings, heights of building, land utilization and physical features of land; expected outputs. Techniques of preparing base maps , scales, content of base map according to scale, components and detailing for various levels of plans.

Module3 :

Methods of population forecasts and projections. Lorenz Curve, Gini Ratio, Theil's index, rations: urban -rural, urban concentration, metropolitan concentration.
