COURSECODE- MUD201 Pedagogy and Evaluation:

The course introduces preparing stand-alone urban design scale development with respect to Existing Planning Regulations and without much restrictions.

Studio Exercise/s:

Design in a Greenfield Site, independent vacant land or in urban extension, with an emphasis on new development prospects.

A.Understanding the Legislative Framework (1) Understanding of Master Plan, Zonal Plan, Sub Zonal Plans and Area development schemes.

(2) Understanding Zoning Plans, Density Regulations and other Development Guidelines, Bye laws (3) Understanding TCP Regulations in India (4) E.I.A Regulations and guidelines as applicable.

B.Design Development (1) Finalising the brief and scope of design.

(2) Analysis of Site and context, environmental issues and socio-cultural context.

(3) Overall Plans, Designs of Open space structure Movement structure Built Form for a community and variety of functions including Residential. Suggested main working scale is 1:1000 (4) Control regulations for individual development and projects within the overall plan.

(5) Selected components may be resolved at usual architectural scale.

(6) Connection with larger context; physical and non-physical may be explored at a higher scale.

(7) May explore project implementation strategies.

Note: The Project site may be chosen in Delhi or outside Delhi. Study Tour/s of up to 15 days duration maybe conducted and the educational task of the study tour will be assessed along with the studio work.

Learning Outcome: Ability of conceptualizing large scale problems and working out realistic, implementable solutions. Ability to extrapolate and experiment with new urban design ideas.
